If you have a horse that has a calm demeanor and is willing to learn, you can teach your horse how to drive. Be aware that only you can ascertain if your horse is suited for driving training or not and not every horse makes a good driver.
No matter if you choose to teach your horse to drive by pulling objects or doing obstacles, you will need to work with your horse on a frequent basis. Most horses that are trained to drive, seem to thoroughly enjoy the challenge. They also need to learn to trust your judgment as to when you're going to pull the reigns and show the horse when to avoid an obstacle. Try to avoid simply doing figure-eight driving in a closed pen as most horses get bored with the quickly and some horses will act up out of boredom.
If your horse is at least 2 years old and in good health, you can usually begin driving training. You will usually need a breaking cart, proper harness, a large enclosed area, a driving whip and lots of time. Most of all, take your time during training and go slow. If your horse seems stressed or is having trouble, slow down and repeat the lesson the next day. Eventually you'll have a good driver on your hands and a horse that really enjoys testing his limits for speed and agility.
